How to customize ABQ EAS quarantine message

I was asked, if it’s possible to customize the notification message, which is send to a user, when you introduce ABQ list for ActiveSync devices.

Of course you can. But you cannot customize the complete message, but you can define a custom text, which will be added. You can do this using the CmdLet Set-ActiveSyncOrganizationSettings or in the UI.

But what about the formatting?

Let’s see how it looks like. If you haven’t configure any additional text, the user will get something like this

ABQ01

So far it looks okay, but I want to add some more info for your user. Therefore I added the following text

Hey dude,

you tried to configure a non-compliant device. Please follow the IT security standards, which could be found here:

https://security.adatum.com

Best regards,
IT Security

Here in the UI

ABQ02

and in EMS

ABQ03

Somehow it looks like it’s formatted. But when the user receives the notification it doesn’t look like you expected

ABQ04

So, how can you format your custom text? Well, the notification sent to the user is HTML. So let’s try with some HTML tags

</br>
Hey dude,
</br>
you tried to configure a non-compliant device. Please follow the IT security standards, which could be found here:
</br>
<a href=https://security.adatum.com>Security policy</a>
</br>
Best regards,
</br>
IT Security

How does this look now?

ABQ05

Better, but still some need to point-out your custom text. Let’s try it with this one

<hr>
<b>Hey dude,
</br>
you tried to configure a non-compliant device. Please follow the IT security standards, which could be found here:
</br>
<a href=https://security.adatum.com>Security policy</a>
</br>
</br>
Best regards,
</br>
IT Security
</b>
<hr>

And this is how it looks now

ABQ06

This looks much better!

I’m not really a HTML guy and I’m sure there are many others with more experience out there. Feel free to customize the notification message, with the built-in tools.

But keep in mind: This is only a notification message.

I hope this will help someone, when it comes to this topic.
